The Banner PresencePLUS system is a solution to many inspection applications where a defect can occur anywhere within the sensor’s field of view, and where a configuration of multiple discrete sensors is either cost-prohibitive or mechanically impractical. PresencePLUS applications illustrate a few typical possibilities.

Objective: To detect a label anywhere on the end of spool of wire.

Sensors: PresencePLUS: P1B65Q with an 8-mm lens

Trigger: QS126E & QS12VN6R

Operation: Four PresencePLUS sensors inspect one quadrant of the spool for a red label. If any of the four PresencePLUS sensors find the label, the spool is accepted and is moved to the next station. A blue filter is fitted to the sensor to enhance the sensing contrast. The red label appears darker to a sensor when a filter is added. An opposed mode MINI-BEAM2 sensor pair is used to supply a trigger signal when the spool interrupts the beam.

Objective: To detect missing tablets in a multi-tablet blister pack.

Sensors: PresencePLUS: P1B65Q0616DC

Trigger: QS126E & QS12VN6R

Operation: One or more missing tablet results in a low white pixel count, which causes the sensor to output a reject signal. A pair of opposed mode MINI-BEAM2 sensors provide a trigger input to the PresencePLUS sensor at the leading edge of each blister pack.
